Cheaper car insurance?

July 29th, 2010 ifydcat No comments

Question by Nobody: Cheaper car insurance?
Hello, I am currently looking to get off my parents insurance for car insurance and put the car in my name. I have recently been planning to move out of the house and get an apartment with my friend. So I have been preparing the costs of living on your own.

My parents don’t know about this yet but I did manage to figure out the price range of my car insurance monthly…it’s 300 dollars…which sounds very expensive. I did have two car accidents in the past two years which were both rear end collisions but only one was my fault. I know that should raise the price and I am only 19 but it sounds unreasonable when I know people who only have 150 monthly payment. Is there a way to find cheaper insurance rates?

I am not too keen on the “insurance” world of how things work so sorry if my post is confusing. Thank you!
Also can I get information and quotes without my parents knowing? Since my vehicle is in their name?

At 17 you can’t have your own policy, you are under age. You have to be added to your parents policy. Have them call their agent and ask what the cost will be.

Q&A: Car insurance bait and switch?

July 28th, 2010 ifydcat No comments

Question by MK’s: Car insurance bait and switch?
I admit I have a not so favorable driving record. The company I was with had elected to discontinue my coverage, leaving me to shop around. After calling every company I could think of, I got all extremely high, but understandable quotes. My last call was to a “insurance broker”. I know not the best route, but left with no other choice. The company got me a quote. . After I signed all paperwork and agreed to the deductions, I called the company just to verify all the information. All was said and fine. A week later they call to tell me the premium was significantly increased due to my record. While I understand, can they really tell me one thing first, have me agree and sign, then change it up like that? I had specifically asked if my record was already pulled and all my info was correct and they said yes.

Answer by bajakma
Sounds like they may have jumped the gun a little. if the agency quoted you and then the insurance company saw your record ad increased the premium price they can do that because they don’t know you from adam and they can say they needed to see your dirving record and not just the agent. try going online to esurance, or insurance.com or lowermybills.com see if you have any better luck.
